Water simultaneously separates Chinatown’s diasporic community from their homeland and connects them to it. In fragmented moon 🩸 🩸 🩸 blood vessel, uta tamate weiss and kai tseng explore water’s paradoxical role as a both a pathway and a boundary, geographically and generationally. Performing with taiko drums and guzheng zithers, uta and kai ask the viewers to contemplate the channels connecting memories of the body, from generation to generation, through what they refer to as “blood waterways”. Through these waterways, each one of us as blood vessels/water bearers carry and transmit the stories of our human and nonhuman ancestors. The artists question “How can we reconcile the violence done to the womb and honor the creation of life? What bloodshed begins and ends with us? Which cosmovisions do we choose to carry forward?”
About kai tseng
kai or kylie 曾 is an artist, diviner, craftsperson, slow builder, villager, relationship ecologist, and alchemist of change in conflict. Her roots come from southern and central China, a daughter of immigrants, scholars, and women whose stories have never been recorded. Born on Ohlone land, kai’s art speaks to the prayer of healing through embodying change itself. Her performance, music, and plays speak to the wild emergent collective spirit that can be evoked when we commune with the elements and our inner nature. When not art making, she spends most of her time working towards village on land, praying for an intergenerational, diverse, and interdependent future.

kai，又名 kylie 是一位藝術家、占卜師、工匠、緩慢細味人生的人、村民、關係生態學家和衝突中變革的煉金術士。她祖先來自中國南部和中部，她是移民、學者和普通婦女的女兒、而她們的故事從未被記錄下來。 kai 出生於 Ohlone 土地，她的藝術通過感受變化來祈求療愈。與自然元素和自我有密切交流後激發潛能，她的表演、音樂和戲劇能與澎湃湧現的集體精神相呼應。當她不進行藝術創作時，她大部分時間都在村莊裏工作，祈求一個世代流傳、多元而且相互依存的未來。
