Jeffrey Yip x Pour the Line 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10

6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 is a collaborative augmented reality piece that serves as "extensions" of the alleyways and streets being interpreted through the five elements. These alternate perspectives of Grant Avenue, Ross Alley, Wentworth Place, Joice Street and Waverly Place are meant to enhance the visitor’s overall experience of these historic locations. Earth becomes groundbreaking, Metal gets illustrious, Water will blur, Air offers a breath of life, and Fire works its magical power. From the five elemental forces to Chinatown’s architectural substance to newly imagined realms, various dimensions of reality interplay, oscillate and coalesce to have us see Chinatown anew.

About Jeffrey Yip

Jeffrey Yip is an interdisciplinary artist of color based out of Oakland, producing multi-sensory installations with an emphasis on social change. Interested in uniting the senses as an approach to building experiences, he often combines light and sound in physical as well as virtual spaces. Thematically his work revolves around exploring technology to facilitate healing as a form of radical justice and often works collaboratively to create sustainable communities. 

 

Jeffrey is a core member of AGASAN, a multi-phase collaborative project that includes workshops and an interactive offering to address mental wellness. In 2015, Jeffrey co-founded Macro Waves, a Bay Area based art collective specializing in producing experiences that center social equity through conceptual art, new media, and design. Jeffrey was recently recognized during his participation in the Recology Artist Residency Program in 2023. He has also been honored with several grants, most recently the Ruth Foundation Artist Choice Grant.
